Dylan Tomine - Wild Steelhead

Dylan Tomine is an author, father, and straight-shooter when it comes to conservation and doing what is right.  Two summers ago I met with him at his house on Bainbridge Island to see if I might be able to get some thought-provoking conversation about wild steelhead...

Les Stroud - Survivorman

There’s more to Les Stroud than one might think.  Survivorman, musician, film-maker, guide, outdoorsman, entrepreneur... he’s a man of many talents.  In this episode, I meet with Les to hear the story about his famous television series, and to pick his brain about living in the great outdoors.

Nicole Darland - The Mom with Edge

Nicole Darland started Xclusive Xpeditions, a luxury destination company, in 2003.  She went on to cohost the Fly Fisherman TV series on the Sportsman Channel, and has been featured in various other films and magazines.  Today she is the vice-president of marketing and brand development for Edge rods and North Fork Composites.  To top it all off, she is also the mother of three beautiful little boys.  In this episode of Anchored, I meet with Nicole at her home in Washington to learn more about her and her life as a working mom in the industry.

This episode is sponsored by Peak Fishing.  You can find Nicole at Edge Rods, North Fork Composites, or @ndarland on Instagram.

Nick Bowles - Destination Dubai

Nick Bowles moved to Dubai from South Africa to chase love…  What he didn’t expect to find there was an untapped fishery and remarkable life-change.  Nick is the owner of Ocean Active charters.  Though they operate out of several locations, it was his Dubai fishery that I was scheduled to experience during my trip there in April.  I met with Nick at his house and hoped he might answer some of the many questions I had about his newfound home.

You can find Nick at http://oceanactive.com

Pete Humphreys - Truly Breaking Down the Spey Cast

Pete Humphreys moved to Michigan from England over 20 years ago.  With him, he brought a passion for fishing and, eventually, an interest in Spey casting.  He has achieved his MCI and THCI through the Federation of Fly Fishers, and is one of the few people in the Great Lakes region who has such accreditation.  In this episode of Anchored, I meet up with Pete in his cabin on the Muskegon river to learn how he came to be such an accomplished caster — and to analyze the Spey cast.

*Only seven months after the recording of this podcast, Pete’s wife, Philippa, died in a tragic horse-back riding accident, leaving him to raise a baby girl on his own.  There has been a college fund started for Pete’s daughter here:  https://www.youcaring.com/millie-elizabeth-humphreys-570323

Chico Fernandez - Cuba ("On the Fly" Short Series)

Chico Fernandez is one of the most charismatic people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.  A saltwater fly fishing pioneer, he was the first fly fisher in Cuba, and after he and his family immigrated to the United States, he continued his legacy in Florida — where he remains to this day.  Chico is a jazz lover, a writer, and a romantic.  I was able to steal him for a quick visit in the corner of the iCast lobby to learn a little more about the famous name I've heard about for so many years.

Adam Greentree - Exploring the Bow

Adam Greentree is the most famous bow-hunter in Australia.  He’d pinch me if he heard me say that, but there are just some things that are undeniable.  Adam spends more time in the Australian bush than anyone I know — to call his camp and lifestyle inspirational would be an understatement… they’re life-changing.  Adam traded in his  rifle for a bow when he was seventeen.  After a year of working in a slaughterhouse, his decision to hunt his own meat was further ingrained into his life and beliefs.  Granted, Australia is unique to the world.  The majority of hunted animals are feral, and are therefore culled by the government in major quantities.  Adam works hard to promote bow hunting as a means to get outside, to appreciate where our food comes from, and to promote conservation in ways that may not be glaringly obvious to a closed mind… at first.  We sit down in this episode of Anchored to try and change that.

Ted Niemeyer - On Naturals

Ted Niemeyer was one of the most skilled fly tiers the fly-fishing world had ever seen.  A pioneer of realistic fly patterns, Ted was gentle to the core, so when he kindly welcomed me into his Washington home to share an afternoon of discussion, I was delighted.  I am sad to say that we lost Ted last year, and with his passing we’ve said goodbye to one of the last true gentlemen we had in this sport.

Louis Cahill - Gink, Gasoline, and Monkeys?

Louis Cahill is one of the most captivating people I have ever met.  I first heard of Louis when his photography popped up in the fly fishing scene — there was no denying that the man has talent.  He then went on to start the popular website, Gink and Gasoline, and the rest is history.  In this episode of Anchored I sit down with Louis to see if I can put a voice to the man who usually speaks to us through text and photographs.

This episode is sponsored by RIO Products.  You can find Louis at www.ginkandgasoline.com

Adrienne Comeau - Straight Up

It’s not every day you get to interview your best friend.  In this episode of Anchored, I sit down with Adrienne Comeau: steelhead guide, photographer, Spey-caster, and fly-tier extraordinaire.  We sit down in her small cabin on the Skeena river to discuss some subjects that are commonly swept under the rug.
