The Jealous Curator : ART FOR YOUR EAR

The Jealous Curator

Podcast Overview

ART FOR YOUR EAR brings you stories from some of my favorite contemporary artists. When I studied Art History, the best part was, well, the gossip. I loved finding out why artists did certain things, what was going on in their personal lives, and behind-the-scenes details about other artists they knew and worked with. This podcast is exactly that ... inside-scoop stories from the artsiest people I know. You'll hear first-hand from these talented, successful, full-time artists (who also happen to be regular people with hilarious stories) BEFORE they’re in the Art History books. - Danielle (aka The Jealous Curator)

Podcast Episodes

SUMMER CAMP 5 : bad art 'n good snacks

Today's project involves bad art, good friends, and delicious snacks ... win, win, win.

SUMMER CAMP 4 : captured through collage

Today's project is about capturing the essence of your favorite place through collage. If that place is Venice, your collage could win you a week's tuition at an art academy in Venice this summer. Just sayin.

SUMMER CAMP 3 : unconventional and absurd

We're heading to the grocery store for our art supplies this week. (Feel free to buy ingredients for s'mores while you're there!)

SUMMER CAMP 2 : the first mark

Week 2 of AFYE Summer Camp is all about making the first mark, or better yet, getting someone else to do it!

SUMMER CAMP 1 : au naturel

Everything a good summer camp should have: art projects, new friends, and gossip! Project number one is all about daily habits.

MANDO MARIE : see you through it

Ahh, spray paint never looked so sweet. I am beyond thrilled to have American artist Mando Marie as my guest for the final episode of AFYE Season One, and I have to say, it's feeling very 'full circle' for me. Take a listen to find out why.

ZEMER PELED : suitcase full of shards

Imagine if you will, a little girl growing up on a kibbutz in Israel who now travels the world - her suitcase filled with tiny hammers and shards of colorful ceramics. Well, no need to imagine because I've got her on the podcast! Zemer Peled is my guest.

NETTIE WAKEFIELD : bit of a pencil snob

The moral of this episode - show your work to random people in pubs because it could be life changing. London based artist, and self-described 'pencil snob', Nettie Wakefield is my insanely talented guest today.

MEGHAN HILDEBRAND : m is for mysterious

How do you make big white canvases less scary? Paint them pink! Magical forests, pattern-covered mountains, Sasquatches, small towns, a question about beaver tails, AND a fellow Canadian ... painter Meghan Hildebrand is my guest today.

BRIAN DONNELLY : fire, failure, and fatty snacks

Painting ... AND hand sanitizer, turpentine, giant BIC lighters, axe throwing, chips 'n dip, Degrassi Junior High, Robert Bateman, and constantly taking risks. Yep, that almost covers my chat with Toronto artist Brian Donnelly.
