In the Groove, Jazz and Beyond

Highlights of this show include contributions from great drummer Jack DeJohnette. We hear from his newest effort Hudson, and later in the show an extended piece led by Pat Metheny with DeJohnette, Haden, Redman, and Brecker from 80/81. Along the way we play great jazz music from Cannonball, Louis Hayes, Kenny Burrell and more.

This podcast is based in part on the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival. The XRIJF is a 10 day street party, with some serious jazz happening in clubs around town. The concderts I attended were Jacob Collier, Billy Childs and Jochen Ruckert. Late night jam sessions were held by guitarist Bob Sneider and drummer Mike Melito. Walt Weiskopf was scheduled later in the week. At the end of the podcast I pay tribute to pianist Geri Allen who passed away at the age of 60 last week.
