Ep. 77: The Movies of New York City

Sponsored by Lending Tree, Boll & Branch, NatureBox

This week, the men of GLoP take on two topics they know a lot about: the best of movies made about New York City and their favorite, most re-watchable movies. And yes, they delve a bit into the contre-Trump of the week, too.

Sponsored by Casper, Harry's Shave, Texture

For. Speed.

Ep. 72: Freedom of Speech Guys

Sponsored by Boll & Branch, HelloFresh, NatureBox

This week, the men of GLoP address an issue that should not be controversial, yet somehow it is: freedom of speech on college campuses and in the culture at large. Howard Dean said on Twitter that hate speech “is not protected by the Constitution” (yes, it is). In a recent New York Times Op-Ed, a vice provost at New York University wrote that “We should thank the student protestors, the activists in Black Lives Matter and other "overly sensitive" souls for keeping watch over the soul of our republic.” Hmm. Also, did late night comedy fuel the rise of Trump? A sad farewell the the great Kate O’Beirne (read Jonah’s tribute here), Rob’s going to Cuba, and yes, the now apparently required corn hole joke (by the way, the now classic corn hole episode of GLoP which John references in the show is here).

Ep. 71: The Friendly Skies

Sponsored by Casper, HelloFresh, Winc

It’s a super-sized GLoP this week (one hour and twenty minutes!) as the men of GLoP (that’s Jonah Goldberg, Rob Long, and John Podhoretz) opine on Sean Spicer’s gaffe, is Steve Bannon headed for the White House door?, the United Airlines bumping, RIP Red Eye, and Jonah’s reaction to the New York Times’ Rick Perlstine’s essay on Conservatism (also, as John mentions in the podcast, you must read the story on how Perlstine and his wife met. It’s in the NYT, but reads like The Onion).

Don’t call us Shirley, @EJHill.

Ep. 70: Close Encounters

Sponsored by Casper, NatureBox, SimpliSafe

This week, Sonny Bunch, the venerable co-host of The Weekly Sub-Standard podcast sits in for the TV making Rob Long (he’ll be back for the next show, promise!). The boy cover the AHCA debacle, why the Richard Dreyfuss character in Close Encounters of The Third Kind is a terrible person, ruminate on the many different cuts of Blade Runner that vastly the movie’s legacy, debate the greatness or lack thereof of Stephen King, and Jonah pushes Sonny to defend an ongoing theory in The Weekly Substandard’s podcast that the Empire in the Star Wars movies are actually the GOOD guys. Huh?
