Wonder Woman Holding Better At Box Office Than Any Superhero Movie In 15 Years - Collider Movie Talk

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Friday, July 14th, 2017) Dennis Tzeng, John Rocha, David Griffin, Matt Knost Sinead DeVries and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

-Wonder Woman holding better than any Superhero movie in 15 years; new image released from Justice League

-Joe Pesci Finally Signs on to ‘The Irishman’ as Martin Scorsese Solidifies Cast

-New EW images and concept art released for IT

-First trailer released for Darkest Hour starring Gary Oldman

-First trailer released for The Birth of the Dragon

-Full cast revealed for Mission Impossible 6

-Mail Bag

According to THR, Wonder Woman now boasts the best hold of any superhero film in more than 15 years at the North American box office. The movie is still going strong as it heads into its seventh weekend; grossing $371.3 million through this past Tuesday and all but assuring to top out at $390 million or more domestically. This will place Wonder Woman as the No. 8 comic book adaptation of all time, and will soon pass Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as the summer’s top grosser. It also means Wonder Woman will earn roughly 3.8 times the $103.3 million it opened with — the best multiple for a genre film in decades.

According to a report from Deadline – after months of badgering, Joe Pesci has agreed to co-star in Martin Scorsese’s gangster drama The Irishman, reuniting him with his Goodfellas and Casino director as well as Robert De Niro. De Niro stars as hitman Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran, who confessed to the real story of the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa on his deathbed. Pesci, who turned down a role a rumored 50 times, will play mob boss Russell Bufalino, who has long been suspected of being involved in Hoffa’s disappearance.

More images have been released from EW’s special Comic Con edition and this time, we get new looks and concept art from the Stephen King adaptation of IT. The movie is due out in theatres in less than two months, and will feature an R Rated take on the popular novel, one that Mama director Andrés Muschietti hopes will please the die-hard fans of the source material.

Focus Features has released the first trailer for Darkest Hour; the new historical drama from Atonement and Hanna director Joe Wright. Written by The Theory of Everything’s Anthony McCarten, the film stars a totally unrecognizable Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill and begins on the eve of World War II, chronicling Churchill’s push to get England to stand up to Nazi Germany and enter the war rather than negotiate a treaty.

BH Tilt has released the first trailer for Birth of the Dragon. Directed by The Adjustment Bureau‘s George Nolfi, Birth of the Dragon tells the story behind the legendary 1960s fight between Shaolin Master Wong Jack Man and a young Bruce Lee; told from the point of view of a young martial arts student whose allegiance became torn between both men. To this day, people still argue about who won the famous fight. The movie is set to hit theatres on August 25th, 2017.

Director Christopher McQuarrie and Tom Cruise took to social media to reveal a new Mission: Impossible 6 cast photo, celebrating the wrap of production in New Zealand and revealing the core cast of the new sequel. Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt, joining returning cast members Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, Sean Harris, Michelle Monaghan and Alec Baldwin; with franchise newcomers Henry Cavill, Vanessa Kirby and Angela Bassett.

The Batman Director Matt Reeves Scraps Ben Affleck's Script - Collider Movie Talk

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Thursday, July 13th, 2017) Mark Ellis, Jeremy Jahns, Kristian Harloff, Perri Nemiroff, Wendy Lee and Grace Hancock discuss the following:

-Breaking: Matt Reeves said he scrapped Ben Affleck’s The Batman script

-Matt Reeves wants to make a War for the Planet of the Apes sequel

-David Ayer exits Scarface remake

-Opening This Week – Wish Upon

-First look images revealed for Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time

-Margot Robbie up for Sharon Tate role in Tarantino’s Manson Family Murders movie

Recently on MTV’s Happy Sad Podcast, War for the Planet of the Apes and upcoming Batman director Matt Reeves revealed that he has altogether scrapped the previous script Ben Affleck, Chris Terrio and DC's Geoff Johns had worked on. When asked if he would be working with Affleck's script, Reeves said, "No, it’s a new story. It’s just starting again. I’m excited about it.

With The Batman up next for director Matt Reeves, some fans question whether he will ever return to helm another entry in the Planet of the Apes prequel franchise. Speaking to Fandango, Reeves spoke a bit about how Caesar’s trilogy began with Rise and then concludes with War, and is on a trajectory towards the original 1968 Charlton Heston movie.

Variety and THR announced that Universal’s new take on the Scarface series is in need of yet another director; with both trades reporting yesterday that director David Ayer has left the project. The Suicide Squad director had previously taken over for Antoine Fuqua, who also dropped out due to scheduling issues for his sequel to the Equalizer. With Ayer, sources for Variety say it was his schedule on getting his upcoming release of Netflix’s Bright off the ground that forced the split, while THR said Ayer's take on the script was "too dark" for the studio's taste.

Yesterday, EW released a number of first-look photos from Disney and Ava DuVernay’s adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time. The story follows Meg Murry played by Storm Reid, who goes on an unexpected journey into alternate dimensions on a mission to bring home her father played by Chris Pine.

Yesterday it was revealed that Quentin Tarantino had quietly begun working on a movie centered around the Manson Family Murders; with a story that is said to be a unique take on the story of Sharon Tate. THR’s report listed Jennifer Lawrence as one of the actresses approached for a role but said it wasn’t for the part of Sharon Tate. Deadline now has the actress approached for the role and it is none other than Harley Quinn herself, Margot Robbie.

According to a report from THR, Quentin Tarantino has been quietly putting together his next movie, and is talking to A-list actors for what is described as a unique take on the Manson Family murders. The untitled project will be written and directed by Tarantino, with THR saying that the story's center will be on Sharon Tate, the actress and wife of director Roman Polanski who was murdered by Manson and his followers in 1969. Sources for THR also say that Tarantino is putting the finishing touches on the script, with Brad Pitt and Jennifer Lawrence both having been approached about the project. The plan is to shoot in the summer of 2018, with a release date still to be determined.

In an exclusive report from THR, Guy Ritchie and Disney Studios are having difficulty finding their lead for the live action remake of Aladdin. While two big names were mentioned in both Riz Ahmed and Dev Patel, THR is now saying Ritchie and the studio are going back to the drawing board in the hopes of a finding an unknown actor that can act and sing, and who is of Middle-Eastern or Indian descent. Filmmakers will now go back to dig through the tapes once again, with Disney also bringing on Mary Poppins Returns producer Marc Platt, and Chris Montan, an executive music producer on Disney’s Frozen.

According to Deadline, The Shallows helmer Jaume Collet-Serra has emerged as the frontrunner to direct Suicide Squad 2. The studio has looked at a number of filmmakers — Mel Gibson included — but sources for Deadline say the studio is now focused on Collet-Serra to take the reins of the franchise that will see Will Smith and Margot Robbie return in the ensemble. No word yet on other cast or how close Collet-Serra is to a deal.

According to a report from Variety, Clint Eastwood has tapped Anthony Sadler, Alek Skarlatos, and Spencer Stone to play themselves in his next movie, The 15:17 to Paris. The film will tell the story of the three Americans who stopped a terrorist on a train bound for Paris. Jenna Fischer, Judy Greer, and Ray Corasani will also join the real-life heroes in the film, with three young actors also cast to play the younger versions of Sadler, Skarlatos and Stone.

EW has debuted the all new trailer and poster for the sequel: Goon: Last of the Enforcers. After a pro lockout reunites old teammates of the Halifax Highlanders, notably missing from the line-up is everyone’s favorite enforcer Doug “The Thug” Glatt. Sidelined after one too many hits and now married with a baby on the way, Doug is hanging up his skates and settling into life as an insurance salesman.

Play with Kristian Harloff and Rick Ingram today on the pilot episode of our video game series - play Battlefield One with them on Xbox Live with the gamertag complex1271

It's been two years since the last James Bond movie, Spectre, was released in theaters and since then fans have wondered if Daniel Craig would return for a fifth time to play 007 in the untitled Bond 25. Now, sources for the Mirror are saying producer Barbara Broccoli has secured Daniel Craig to return for at least one more film. The report states the plan is to begin filming as early as next year in order to hit a proposed release for 2019.

According to a report from Variety, composer John Williams, who has scored all but two of Steven Spielberg’s feature films over the past 43 years, will not be doing the music composition for Ready Player One. Instead, Back to the Future and The Avengers composer Alan Silvestri will take on the project. The report states that because post-production is happening at the same time on both Ready Player One and Spielberg’s other film, The Papers, Williams will score the The Papers, with Silvestri stepping in on Ready Player One.

It’s Monday which means it’s time for the weekend box office report and it’s official – Spidey is home. Sony and Marvel’s co-production proved to be a massive hit, with the second reboot, Spider-Man Homecoming, taking the No 1 spot and opening well above projections with $117 million. The opening stands as the second largest ever for a Spider-Man feature and is the largest opening for a single character intro in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Universal and Illumination's Despicable Me 3 took the No 2 spot with an estimated $34 million bringing its domestic total just shy of $150 million. Sony’s Baby Driver took the No 3 spot in its second weekend, finishing with an estimated $12.75 million, and a domestic total of $56.9 million.

According to a report from The Tracking Board, Fresh Off the Boat star Randall Park is set to play S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Jimmy Woo in Marvel’s Ant Man and the Wasp. Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly will return to play the title characters, and will be joined by Black Mirror actress Hannah John-Kamen, whose role remains a mystery. Michael Douglas and Michael Peña are also expected to return as Hank Pym and Luis; with Peyton Reed returning to direct.

Magnolia Pictures has debuted the official trailer for Lucky starring Harry Dean Stanton. The film, billed as a "love letter to the life and career of Harry Dean Stanton", follows the spiritual journey of a 90-year-old atheist Lucky — played by Stanton — and the quirky characters that inhabit his off-the-map desert town. Lucky finds himself at the precipice of life, thrust into a journey of self-exploration.

Variety is reporting that the box office tracking numbers are in for Christopher Nolan‘s World War II movie Dunkirk. Estimates place its opening in the $30 to $40 million range, making it Nolan’s lowest opening for a wide release since 2006.
