Triumph of the Egg
Sherwood Anderson
Book Overview:
“The Triumph of the Egg” is a collection of stories and poems by Sherwood Anderson. Abandoning the interconnected quality of his more famous “Winesburg, Ohio,” the author adopts a variety of perspectives and settings while exploring similar themes: personal growth, disillusionment, loneliness, and urban-rural contrast. In the North American Review, critic Lawrence Gilman wrote, “Mr. Anderson has achieved a beauty that irradiates his page.” Though largely overshadowed by that celebrated, earlier book, “The Triumph of the Egg” remains a foundational work for Modernist literature, proven by its winning the first annual Dial Award from the influential journal The Dial.

The American author Anderson was one of the most famous writers decades ago, but today he is unfairly almost forgotten. Reading Anderson means to me discovering the tension of economic progress and nostalgia in the mid-American society in the beginning of the 20th century, of passion and everyday li
After reading “ Winesburg, Ohio I decided to keep going on the Anderson stories.
These stories are slightly more uneven with a few not really even worth noting. There are many, however, that hold up extremely well. As in his other collection there is a great deal of sexuality or at least sensual thou

Done, and it always bums me out when I do so. The stories are timeless and at times formless. The stories are like ghosts trying gliding through the pages, giving the reader a peek of the ghostly form and then they disappear. Just a perfect little book that's ever been writ!
Anderson is a wonderful writer, evoking a particular America that maybe never existed as such an actualised, coherent place in the world, but certainly did exist as a unified literary landscape: clear bright skies, verdant hills, vast flat plains where -- on a clear day -- the eye can see forever: t
