A surprisingly readable and enjoyable collection of whimsical essays on diverse subjects, none of the squibs a dud, and the best perhaps that on Mrs Badgery. Collins is sometimes overlooked against Dickens and Thackeray but is often a better plotter, a better essayist and, as here, a funnier read.
