This was my first Henty novel that I read as it’s not available on Audible. It was an enjoyable read, though at over 300 pages much more drawn out than it needed to be. It was certainly a departure from his normal style where he takes a factual time period, with usually a war or some major historica

I finished this during a vacation and didn't have access to GoodReads so the plot is a bit hazy to me. Spoilers ahead.

As far as I can recall and according to the summaries I can find, this is most a detective story about 2 deaf or partly young ladies who used their lip reading skills to solve a crim

Unlike other Henty's I've read. Perhaps an attempt to branch out into the market for young lady readers? ...although the heroines in this book don't even feature as centrally as the boys of other Henty works. I quite liked the story though, although about two thirds of the way through all the pieces
