Mooi voorgelezen! Couperus blijft een van mijn favoriete schrijvers. Heel fijn.

Na het lezen van 'De stille kracht', 'Extaze' en 'Van oude mensen...' raadde ik aan Couperus te lezen. Zijn 'Langs lijnen van geleidelijkheid' was voor mij echter een al te frustrerende leeservaring.

Dit deed me op een bepaalde manier erg denken aan Grand Hotel Europa. Niet alleen door de Italiaanse hotel-setting, maar ook de manier waarop Couperus de culturele teloorgang van Zuid-Europa beschrijft vindt 120 jaar later duidelijk zijn echo’s in Pfeijffers roman. Het boek was echt prachtig! Ik genoten van heb het grootste deel van het boek. Echter, het deel waarin Cornelis besluit weer terug te komen bij haar ex gebeurt heel onverwachts. Het past wel ergens bij de grotere lijn van het boek, maar ik vind het er toch niet geheel bij passen.

A beautifully written book that captivated me from start to finish. The characters and events are still echoing through my thoughts long after I've finished. Definitely one to ponder and I've no doubt I'll re-read it.
