I have loved Stepping Heavenward, by the same author, for many years and just recently realized she had written other books. This book is interesting because it is fiction, yet somehow it is also a book about mothering and child-rearing, character, and Christ. Loved it!

As I began the book, it felt too scripted, artificially planned.
It won be over.
The principles for raising children are challenging and encouraging.
I will be reading this again.

Some sweet moments and good thoughts in this little piece of family fiction. The story is a bit maudlin in the Victorian style at times (though contemporaries would probably have considered exceptionally fresh and honest) but Elizabeth Prentiss has humor and wisdom - especially in this book, wisdom

It pains me to say. Because I love this author. I’ve tried 3 times to read this book and I just can’t finish it. It feels to scripted. I am sure there are chucks of gold in it. But I just can’t keep trying...more
