I visited Haddon Hall with my cousin and there were several mentions of Dorothy and her famous elopement, so I was very excited to buy and read this old book. The writing was not wonderful, but it was fine. I enjoyed it for what it was and had a great time picturing the house and grounds that I had
Written in 1908, it was very flowery and Victorian even the illustrations looked like Gibson girls. It was not a great book but very interesting as my maternal line is Vernon and supposedly descends from Dorothy Vernon. I think it’s really interesting that her story should survive for centuries.
