Иook is full of events, easy to read and, as usual, with a happy ending :)

This was a decent book. A crew is shipwrecked on the South American coast and must fend for themselves until they can be rescued. They find the remains of an ancient incan culture and spend the last part of the book figuring out how to get rich from their discovery.

Beforehand, I hoped “The Adventures of Captain Horn” would be an exciting read, but it turned out to be slow-paced and short of thrills.

I almost stopped reading after the first few pages, as what you get is a third-person narrator explaining how Captain Horn’s ship is wrecked on an island. None of t

This book has it all: shipwreck, narrow escapes, hidden treasure, pirates, romance, high adventure! A very fun read! Mrs Cliff’s yacht is the sequel, also very good.

Ran across a first edition of this 1895 #3 best selling novel among my late grandmother's things. It turned out to be a very nicely written shipwreck/buried treasure adventure. In the midst of the current CoViD-19 sequestration, indulging in late-Victorian angst is positively refreshing!

Really enjoyed this book.

Pretty good late Victorian adventure story in the vein of H. Rider Haggard or Stevenson. Nothing too groundbreaking, but an enjoyable read. Discussions and depictions of indigenous and African peoples are of their time.
