A bit tedious to read, but it really is the quintessential ghost story for Japan. This story is the mother of the long haired ghost, and worth the read for any fan of the genre.
One of those grotesque horror stories from Japanese folklore that Lafcadio Hearn managed so well. Set in the early 18th century, it tells of an abused wife whose ghost returns to seek vengeance on all those responsible for the terrors she had been forced to endure in life. Unfortunately, Benneville

Historia jest oparta na legendzie. Na początku ciężko było się wciągnąć, ale im dalej tym ciekawsza była historia. Wszystko, co spotkało kobietę powodowało u mnie poczucie niesprawiedliwości. Zdecydowanie jest to ten typ historii, gdzie kibicujemy zjawie, bo prostu jej współczujemy. Opowieść
I can't recommend this book to most people, because it is extremely hard to read. Everyone is nasty and awful and pretty hateful. However, for the fan of Japanese ghost stories, this book is pretty much a necessity as it's basically the only English telling of the quintessential Japanese ghost story
