In Hong Kong’s unrest, the danger comes from inside the city’s own intelligence architecture. Disavowed sleeper agent Simon Hart is still operating under an IT consultant cover when an unexpected raid at a Wan Chai civic-tech forum exposes his past connections and forces a counterintelligence cleanup he cannot report. With no formal backup, hidden assets at his disposal, and the pressure of Veil of Promises closing in, he has to work the leak from the inside while every move is watched.

Simon’s assignment is specific: trace a compromised packet route, run a mole hunt through his own network, and neutralize a rogue group before they splice classified names into the public feed ahead of a protest planned in forty-eight hours. Their power is not bullets but control of secure apps with backdoors and a disinformation story that brands Simon a defector. When an intelligence officer offers asylum in exchange for the group’s plans, Simon has to decide whether the opening is real or just another piece of the trap.

The deeper Simon goes, the more his oldest loyalties slow him down at the worst moment. He lives by one rule—never betray the trust of the network—but every step toward the truth risks burning the cover identity that kept him alive for five years. In this espionage thriller, the cost of being right is losing the name he used to survive, and the cost of hesitation is letting innocent people be spent by a lie.
