Set in the nineteenth century, near Morville, England, in a large, windswept house, Mallett's Lodge one of three elderly sisters, Ursula Mallow, dies.

Ursula's death follows her instructions for the maintenance of her room to her other sisters - Eunice Mallow and Tabitha Mallow.
