A retelling of the adventures of Ulysses, including his adventures both the Cyclops and Circe, as he journeys home to his home of Ithaca. The story then continues to include his quest to rejoin his wife and family of whom he has been separated from for twenty years. This is Homer's Odyssey for the younger set.

d aloud to Athene that she would save her son. And the suitors heard her praying, and said, "Surely the Queen prays, thinking of her marriage, nor knows that death is near to her son."

Then she lay down to sleep, and while she slept Athene sent her a dream in the likeness of her sister. And the vision stood over her head and spake: "Sleepest thou, Penelope? The gods would not have thee grieve, for thy son shall surely return."

And Penelope said: "How camest thou here, my sister? For thy dwelling is far away. And how can I cease to weep when my husband is lost? And now my son is gone, and I am sore afraid for him, lest his enemies slay him."

But the vision answered: "Fear not at all; for there is a mighty helper with him, even Athene, who hath bid me tell thee these things."

Then Penelope said: "If thou art a goddess, tell me this. Is my husband yet alive?"

But the vision answered, "That I cannot say, whether he be alive or dead." And so saying, it vanished into air.

And Penelope woke from her sleep, and her heart was comforted.

CHAPTER VI

ULYSSES ON HIS RAFT

Again the gods sate in council on high Olympus, and Athene spake among them, saying:

"Now let no king be minded to do righteously, for see how there is no man that remembereth Ulysses, who was as a father to his people. And he lieth far off, fast bound in Calypso's isle, and hath no ship to take him to his own country. Also the suitors are set upon slaying his son, who is gone to Pylos and to Lacedaemon, that he may get tidings of his father."

To her Zeus made answer: "What is this that thou sayest? Didst not thou thyself plan this in order that the vengeance of Ulysses might be wrought upon the suitors? As for Telemachus, guide him b

Great introduction to The Odyssey. I have read it in preparation to read The Odyssey, but when I checked my Goodreads, it said I have already read it.

The sequel to the illiad. i was trying to read the original verson written by homer and turned to this children's version to better understand the jist of the story. It is easier to understand and a lot less work.

"the best book I've ever read!" rowan, 6 years
I liked all the mythical creatures. Some of the words were tricky to understand, but the pictures were good and the story was exciting. I am now going to read the Illiad!

Not too long and some of the aspects of the book are completely removed so you cannot say that you know the tale after reading this book, but the author's choice of the essentials is included and makes you return having enjoyed it.

A great alternative to the original Homer's Odyssey, which might be too much for some. Legendary story with vivid characters. Recommend strongly.

Not sure if this is the same book I read, my kindle app calls it The story of the odyssey, but credits the author as homer and church as the translator, this was the only thing that seemed to have a similar # of pages and lists church as the author so I'm pretty sure it's right. Anywho I've read the
