So, for my work, I read this - a mystery novel from 1918 by prolific writer Carolyn Wells which introduces her Pennington "Penny" Wise series detective character. Penny Wise does not actually appear until 2/3rds of the way into the book, as we get an elaborate set-up involving some bored rich people
Too many characters, and most of them speak the same; it’s like an old Agatha Christie…there are so many moving parts that we don’t really care about any of them.
