Volumns 1 through 3. I really like M E Braddon's books because I can usually tell what is going to happen within the first 3 chapters of a book. Ms Braddon's books are always different from what I expect in romance books. This book is romance, mystery,murder, christian and the best part lost love. T

Great work of tragedy. The cruelest romance I’ve ever read. From the beginning the author was contriving new ways to separate the two main characters in this book. There was a romance in the beginning but it all went down hill from there and there is no happy ending.

Reviewing all 3 Volumes, because they do not stand alone. Rather slow moving, even for Braddon. Christabel, a beautiful young heiress, has been brought up properly by her wealthy aunt. The aunt’s greatest longing is for Christabel to marry her scoundrel son (whom Mother believes to be perfect). Whil

This is more romantic and less “sensational” than most of Braddon’s work. It also has a stronger moral/Christian tone than most of her work (something I associate more with her fellow sensation novelist, Mrs Wood). Nevertheless it is an easy read and Mrs Braddon’s witty prose is to be enjoyed. I kep
