It proved a long and devious journey. The Hotel de la Pax was a series of afterthoughts on the part of its builders. Up hill and down dale the boy led, through dark passageways, over narrow bridges, until at length they arrived at the door of 389.

"My boy," muttered Minot feelingly, "I congratulate you. Henry M. Stanley in the flower of his youth couldn't have done any better."

"Yes, suh." The boy threw open the door of a narrow cell, at the farther end of which a solitary window admitted the well-known Florida sunshine. Minot stepped over and glanced out. A ridiculous melodrama, but light reading for this sick week, which is what I was looking for. The book I found on the shelf is from 1918, and belonged to my husband's grandmother.

ENGLISH: An English noble insures his love, meaning that he will collect a large sum if her fiancée decides to break the marriage. The insurance company sends a man to make sure that the marriage takes place, unless the noble's actions are the cause of the break. The insurance man falls in love with

A Preston Sturges-esq screwball comedy that could have been a hit in old Hollywood. Witty writing with innumerable twists and turns. A riot!

Sarcastic and cynical, this book was hilarious! The author wrote in the style of P. G. Wodehouse and told a love story.
In the early 1900's a lot of noble families in England were practically penniless. An accepted route for replenishing the family coffers at the time was to marry a wealthy spouse.

If you like classic Hollywood movies; absurd capers; dodgy disguises; a steady flow of bons mots; and the certainty that love will conquer all, then “Love Insurance” is surely for you! I thoroughly enjoyed this - the literary equivalent of tucking yourself up on the sofa with a cocktail, and watchin
