Little Saint Elizabeth and Other Stories

Frances Hodgson Burnett

Book Overview:

She had not been brought up in America at all. She had been born in France, in a beautiful château, and she had been born heiress to a great fortune, but, nevertheless, just now she felt as if she was very poor, indeed. And yet her home was in one of the most splendid houses in New York. She had a lovely suite of apartments of her own, though she was only eleven years old. She had had her own carriage and a saddle horse, a train of masters, and governesses, and servants, and was regarded by all the children of the neighborhood as a sort of grand and mysterious little princess, whose incoming and outgoings were to be watched with the greatest interest....

Nice little collection of short stories for younger children.

If you like the last story in this collection, BEHIND THE WHITE BRICK, try THE POOR LITTLE RICH GIRL by Eleanor Gates!

Four short stories that all start off interesting, but end suddenly. I must admit that I enjoyed The Proud Little Grain of Wheat story quite a lot.

Elizabeth is a little too sweet, along the lines of Fauntleroy, for me.

Little Saint Elizabeth is a sweet story of a child's desire to help the poor. Prince Fairyfoot was ok, but I wish he didn't have to deny himself (the fact he had little feet) to be accepted by his family. The Proud Little Grain of Wheat's ending was definitely creepy. Behind the White Brick was fun.
