I really was liking the book all up until the very last chapter. What a shame that ending was? I hate it when books or TV programs or movies just stop, because then I think “why?, why did I invest to the time only to have the author play with my emotions like that?” Why even write the damn thing if

Bennett was the patchiest of writers. The Card is one of my favourite ever novels, and the Clayhanger series are excellent, but this slight work is really a mess. And it ends so abruptly that I wonder if he just got fed up with it too.
