Pansy

Book Overview:

In The King's Daughter, Dell Bronson has been reared in Boston by her refined uncle and aunt until, at age 18, she is called home by her father, a coarse tavern owner in Lewiston. Authored by Isabella M. Alden under the pen name “Pansy.” Third in the Ester Ried series.

Dell Bronson is one of my favorite book heroines. She's stubborn and smart and determined. She faces some very difficult situations (notably, she is a strong supporter of the Temperance Movement, yet her father owns a saloon). She has to find a way to maintain her values while loving her father in a

Dell faces some harsh realities of life after leaving the loving home of her wealthy uncle and aunt in Boston, when her father appeals to her to come to a dreary little town to become housekeeper in his wretched old saloon and hotel. She has a heart full of faith, hope, and love to help people, rega

What a profound lesson we learn from this book! Even if I lived in a bar because that's where my dad lived, I could still be a king's daughter if Jesus is my King!  It's all in our perception. God sees us in a completely different way than we see ourselves and our environment. We don't have to let o

I read this book when I was 15 years old.

A really lovely and uplifting read that inspired me to be dedicated to doing God's work. I loved Dell Bronson, the protagonist. The tight plot, with Scripture woven within, was impacting. It was interesting to read about the Temperance Movement and how the pledge for total abstinence worked, and how

(At 20%, a reminder of Sara meeting little Lottie in A LITTLE PRINCESS) I like how it's not just "Maybe they know each other"--it's straight to "p

Dell is sent back West to visit her father, but what she finds shocks her. He is a seller and drinker of rum, something Dell is not fond of in the least.

It was ok, not amazing. I like how her devotion to God kept her going, but it was almost a mirror story to "Dakotah Treasures: Pearl" by Lauraine
