Doing what’s right while also working hard will open doors to better opportunities and rewards, is basically what the book is telling us, through the life of Julius. This book can be seen as a learning tool for kids, so they can be honest and hardworking in the future.

A solid, if moralizing, tale of a boy who rises in the world from humble beginnings! Though dated, these stories are still engagingly written enough to be read through in one or two sittings. Don't mind the "redskin;" you can hardly avoid them in old westerns!
