In Fractured Signals, Owen Mercer is a signals intelligence officer under heavy scrutiny, working under cover as a data scientist at NorthBridge Analytics in Beijing when a leak from inside his own institution shows the civilian surveillance program has been redirected into a domestic crackdown. With his communications already monitored and his legend strained by unrecorded internships, Owen has to decrypt the signals before a state-built algorithm can sort dissidents into detention queues.

The packet points to a high-ranking official who controls the agency’s internal data flows, and a mole hunt tightens around Owen’s network as he traces who buried the warnings, why the routing changed, and how the launch clock hit seventy-two hours. Working through compromised channels, he leans on Graham Pike, a trusted mentor, Mei Lin, the technician who can open the cleaner decrypt path, and a promising AI specialist willing to defect, all while trying to follow his doctrine: never move against a fellow officer without substantial proof.

What makes the novel cut so deep is Owen’s fatal faith that the institution can still correct itself. He trusts process upward and doubts the people nearest him, and every new clue forces him to choose between protecting his cover and exposing the truth. The real cost is watching the data-scientist legend built from unrecorded internships start to collapse under the audit trail he needs to survive.
