I have always loved Holmes, but was put off ACD's other books by reading "The White Company" at school.
I spotted this book a while back. Decided to buy it. My edition is a 1923 small John Murray Fiction Library one, with a very nice loose cover. The book is billed as a "A Romance if the Unromantic".
The story is about John Girdlestone and his son, Ezra who have quite a dreadful problem. Their merchant firm is rapidly descending into financial ruin and if they don't do something to prevent it, the proud name of Girdlestone will be forever disgraced.
