In Berlin, defector handler Lena Hartmann is left exposed when an unauthorized extraction fails beneath Ostbahnhof, revealing high-value defector Maksim Orlov and stripping away the little support her own service still had left. Labeled overly cautious after earlier failures and working under an NGO project-management cover, she has to keep Orlov alive while a foreign intelligence officer, backed by local law enforcement, closes in.

With the defector’s location compromised within forty-eight hours, The Final Distribution pushes Lena into a counterintelligence and mole-hunt race through dead drops, a Tiergarten access tube, and a records trail that shows a false “rogue” narrative was planted two months earlier. She must verify routes, identify who inside her network fed the breach, and neutralize the hunter tracking Orlov while the tight global intelligence-sharing rules leave her isolated from allied support.

Lena’s fatal flaw is her loyalty upward: she keeps trusting the agency that withholds extraction resources and hesitates to name the people inside it who used Orlov as leverage. That hesitation makes her blame the wrong ally, even as Orlov’s information about cyberattacks could reshape cybersecurity policy and his paranoia makes every move riskier; survival means choosing which loyalty to burn before Berlin’s last clean dead drop disappears.
