. . .As I opened my eyes, blinking in the morning light, I became aware of two equally overwhelming feelings. Firstly, I felt intensely sad. Taking a few deep breaths, I told myself it was just a dream, and I was grateful that that was all it was. The feeling, however, was one I couldn’t quite shake. I felt overpowering grief, my eyes stinging from the tears fighting to be released. I have to call mum and dad tomorrow, I thought to myself, hoping everyone was OK. Silly really, but still, it made me want to get in touch with them. It had been too long. Secondly, my mouth was as dry as the Sahara. Beyond thirsty, I got up and went to the kitchen where I drank two large glasses of water.
