Derues
Alexandre Dumas
Book Overview:
This story chronicles the crimes of Antoine-Francois Desrues (also called "Derues") from his childhood to his execution. Desrues constructed the veneer of a virtuous reputation that hid his ever-increasing deviancy from society. Eventually, his lust for fame and fortune (especially the latter) crumbled his virtuous veneer, revealing the startling extent of his crimes, and condemning him to justice by the executioner's hand.

“Go, and hold your tongue, backbiting woman!”
To this man, the honour of Derues was an article of faith; he had not yet ceased to wonder at the probity of this sainted person, and to doubt it in the least was as good as suspecting his own.

Un po' deludente rispetto agli altri titoli della serie. Derues non mi è piaciuto come personaggio. Forse ha inciso leggere il libro in un periodo particolare, di poca concentrazione.
