Cobb's Anatomy

Irvin S. Cobb

Book Overview:

At seventeen years of age, he began writing for the Paducah Daily News, his hometown paper. At nineteen he became the managing editor; up to that point, our nation’s youngest. He worked as a columnist, a humorist and an author. But ‘horror,’ and ’short stories,’ are not why he is remembered. He is remembered because he was, and still is, funny. And although he is now dead–he died March 11, 1944–this work “Cobb’s Anatomy,” among others, has left an indelible mark upon mankind: a smile.

When that horse dies he will still have finger marks on his throat and the authorities will suspect foul play probably.

Once I tried it myself. I was induced to scale the heights of a horse that was built somewhat along the general idea of the Andes Mountains, only more rugged and steeper nearing the crest. From the ground he looked to be not more than sixteen hands high, but as soon as I was up on top of him I immediately discerned that it was not sixteen hands—it was sixteen miles. What I had taken for the horse's blaze face was a snow-capped peak. Miss Anna Peck might have felt at home up there, because she has had the experience and is used to that sort of thin. . . Read More

How did I make it to almost 40 without discovering Irvin Cobb?

Who is Irvin Cobb? Did you know he hosted the 7th Annual Academy Awards? I find that fascinating. Not sure why. I just do. Why do I like this book? Not sure. I think I liked it because it was written over 100 years ago and humans (people) still worry about simple things like hair, teeth, being overw

Comical, to say the least!

This little book was not what I was looking for, nor what I expected. I was hoping to find a simple anatomy book with pictures. This little gem is a small collection of stories about various simple workings of the body and its basic parts. If you want to take a break and ha

One of the funniest little books I've read. The chapter on teeth and dentistry is hilarious.
