“That’s snow,” said Bompard, “and by the twist of it it’s in a whirlwind.”

“Bon Dieu, what a place,” said La Touche.

“You may say that,” said Bompard, “but that’s nothing, it’s when we come to make a landing we’ll find what we are against.”64

“Oh, we’ve got so far we’ll finish it,” said La Touche.

Then began a dismal argument, full of words and repetitions but with few ideas, and from the trend of it the curious fact appeared that La Touche, the ship’s grouser and dismal James, was taking the optimistical side, whilst Bompard, generally cheerful, was the pessimist.

Before you go any farther, please understand that this book was written in 1919, before the idea of a book "romance" meaning relationships and love and sex. It is not that type of romance. This is a romance in the sense of the old French term "roman" meaning simply a fictional tale as opposed to non

I'm a sucker for this classical author's works. Beach of Dreams is a romance novel which started off a little slow but soon caught the momentum of its sibling, the famous 'Blue Lagoon'. De Vere Stacpoole's work is definitely meant for those who like old-world writing, which at times can be quite des

I'd give it ten stars if I could. One of the most wonderful books I have ever read. The section where Raft finds Cleo and saves her life is just magic. I can't recommend this enough.

I love this story! A wealthy young woman, being courted by a prince, ends up marooned on a wild and dangerous island, populated only by sea lions, penguins, and scavenger birds. This short book had it all: man-vs-man, man-vs-self, and man-vs-nature. Well done book with good descript

This author is amazing. "Beach Of Dreams" is my second book by Stacpoole (the first being "The Man Who Lost Himself") and it is very, very good. Don't let the title mislead you. This isn't some kind of island holiday where romance ensues while people sun themselves and drink tequilas. Thank
