She drew on her other glove and held out her hand again.

"My purse?" she said. "Will you not give me that too? Where have you put it? And then I must really go."

"I haven't seen any purse," said Gimblet.

Not a horrible read. It had some decent mystery and shades if Sherlock going on, but there was still a lot of the Victorian melodrama feel.

First published in 1915, this cryptographic murder mystery keeps the reader guessing. Sir Arthur Byrne hastily marries and accepts his new brides adopted daughter as his own. The couple spends the next few years in different countries as Sir Arthur was attached to the British diplomatic corps. Tr...more

It may be possible to solve the mystery before the detective, but I did not. The female main character becomes a bit Victorian at times,...more

A good, old-fashioned mystery

A fun read for anyone who enjoys a good period mystery. Detective Gimlet is like a "more human" Sherlock Holmes. Lots of drama, romance, and suspense!

A mystery that includes politics, treason, conspiracy, romance, seduction, and spies. Not nail biting certainly but worth a read if you're in the mood for a slow story that build up as it progresses.

Good mystery..romance..Just what I like..!
