2017 Emmy Nomination Reactions

Long time fans of Bald Move knows we don't care much for most rewards shows, and thus don't comment a lot on them. But sometimes, the best show on TV gets royally shafted on an award show that purports to recognize outstanding work in the medium, and we just got to take to the mics and talk about it. You might not like The Leftovers, but it's so galling that it doesn't even get a nomination for any major category, while stale farts like House of Cards gets lavished with actor, actress, series, supporting actor nominations... well, you can listen to us lose our ish about it for about an hour. And we get around to covering the other major nominations too.

Silicon Valley Season Four Wrap Up

A.Ron and Jason from the Nattercast join forces to send the boys on Silicon Valley on their way until next season. Jason talks a bit about his background, the Nattercast in general, and his unique qualifications for discussing Silicon Valley (00:00:30), before we get down to business hashing it out. (00:08:00) Season four; what did we like? What didn't we like? Also, R.I.G.G.B., Jason makes the case against Richard for CEO, or kinda anything, in general, and we discuss the potential impact for T.J. Miller leaving the cast.

Who Won The Week?! Round 10

Jim and A.Ron try to settle the final score, as Fargo and Better Call Saul square off one final time in dueling finales. We judge which finale was better, than rank the shows third seasons as a whole.

Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog

Special thanks to Tyler Shumway for commissioning the 2008 musical web series, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog for our review. The creative fruit of the 2007 WGA strike, Joss Whedon employed his Hollywood friends and family for a whimsical take on Superheroes and Villains, casting Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion as a dynamic duo struggling to control the heart of their city, and one particular woman who dwells within it. From that fairly silly premise, a surprisingly good musical with plenty of heart is born. Also, there is an accompanying musical commentary track to go along with it. That's something you don't see every day.

Handmaid’s Tale, American Gods, House of Cards

Cecily joins A.Ron in the studio to talk about the finale of Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale, as well as late season American Gods (23:11) from Starz, before moving on to our general thoughts of the first three quarters of season five of Netflix's House of Cards (33:53).

Who Won The Week?! Round 9

Jim and A.Ron debate who won the week between the last two shows standing, AMC's Better Call Saul and FX's Fargo.  Also, A.Ron sneaks in a few House of Cards hot takes (00:06:09).

Who Won the Week?! Round 8

An epic battle!  The Leftovers brings the thunder in their series finale.  Better Call Saul delivers a scene of memorable tension.  Fargo delves into the supernatural.  Three shows enter, but only one can win the championship belt this week.  Who will it be?!

Who Won the Week?! Round 7

Jim and I discuss who won the week! A short week, as Better Call Saul took it's ball and went home for Memorial Day, but Fargo and The Leftovers really came strong. Will Fargo have enough stuff to overcome the excitement of The Leftovers' penultimate episode? Then we talk about Silicon Valley (00:05:12 ) and T.J. Miller's career prospects for a bit before signing off.

Twin Peaks (1990)

This community commissioned podcast is for the 1990 television series, Twin Peaks. Created Mark Frost and David Lynch, we can only imagine the impact this had on audiences 30 years ago as 30 million Americans obsessively tuned in every week to answer the question, "who killed Laura Palmer?" Jim ultimately doesn't like it, but I see it's potential and got a lot of enjoyment from the crazy tonal swings and quirky, off beat nature. Also, lots of beautiful and interesting people on screen constantly, which always helps.

Who Won the Week?! – Round 6

You know the drill.  Three shows enter, (HBO's The Leftovers, FX's Fargo, and AMC's Better Call Saul) one show makes it out wearing the crown, taking the gold, hoisting the belt, etc.  Another tough week with some epic losses of great characters on multiple shows.  The big question on our minds; can anyone stop The Leftovers in their final two weeks?
