David Crockett: His Life and Adventures

John S. C. Abbott

Book Overview:

David "Davy" Crockett was a celebrated 19th century American folk hero, frontiersman, soldier and politician. He is commonly referred to in popular culture by the epithet “King of the Wild Frontier.” He represented Tennessee in the U.S. House of Representatives, served in the Texas Revolution, and died at the Battle of the Alamo. This narrative attempts faithfully to record the influences under which David Crockett was reared and the incidents of his wild and wondrous life. It begins with his ancestors' immigration to the American wilderness, his adventures among the Indians, his political career in Tennessee and beyond, and ending with his heroic stand at the Alamo.

He soon saw, to his great satisfaction, that the daughter remained faithful to him, and that the meek father was as decidedly on his side as his timid nature would permit him to be. Though David felt much insulted, he restrained his temper, and, turning from the angry mother, told her daughter that he would come the next Thursday on horseback, leading another horse for her; and that then he would take her to a justice of the peace who lived at the distance of but a few miles from them, where they would be married. “Most men are remembered by how they died rather than how they lived.” This quote by David Crockett serves, in my opinion, as the best way to describe this national folk hero that has grown over the years bigger than life. He was born in poverty and didn't lead a particularly remarkable childhood fo

King of the Wild Frontier, indeed!

Very good telling of Davy (David) Crockett. A compelling true-life adventure story, as well as an excellent account of America's history during those pioneering years.

Most interesting and full of facts and information I didn't know.

Young and old alike should enjoy this book as there's so much more to know and learn about this legend of the wilderness.

Very interesting read. Though this person isn't my favourite with his gratuitous killing of animals (like when he killed 6 deer, but only used 2), it's always good to learn about history. And as an aspiring writer, tales like this are inspiring, they really fire the imagination.

love this book.
